Chief Finance Officer

Leads the overall vision and strategy of the organisation, makes key business decisions, and is responsible for the company’s overall performance, growth, and success.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

We are a leading retailer specializing in pop culture merchandise that is on the search for a Chief Financial Officer who will report to the CEO and assume a strategic role in the overall management of the company. This role will also provide leadership and strategic direction to the following areas as they will all report directly to this key leadership position: accounting, finance, forecasting, strategic planning, legal, real estate, construction, purchasing, investor relations, and private and institutional financing. The successful person for this role is someone looking for a role anchored in the CFO responsibilities, however makes an impact well beyond the technical and traditional CFO role. The role requires someone passionate about product, efficient operations, continuous growth of the business and people; and finally demonstrates strong aptitude for fiscal management that maximizes sales, improves productivity and ensures efficiency across the company.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership, supporting the development and delivery of the organisation’s short- and long-term objectives while identifying opportunities to improve profitability and overall financial performance.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance organisational value through revenue growth, increased productivity and greater operational efficiency.
  • Partner closely with senior leadership to identify and evaluate opportunities for growth, including international expansion, licensing, new products, category development and new business opportunities.
  • Establish and continuously improve financial and operational strategies by evaluating trends, defining key performance measures, developing systems and implementing effective change.
  • Ensure the Finance function provides timely, accurate and insightful budgets, forecasts, financial reporting and variance analysis to support effective decision-making.
  • Oversee treasury activities, including cash management, investment of funds, liquidity requirements, financial risk management and key banking relationships.
  • Monitor financial performance, analyse results and variances, and implement appropriate corrective actions where required.
  • Assess the financial implications of long-term plans, new programmes, strategic initiatives and regulatory developments.
  • Build strong relationships with senior executives, understand their commercial needs and provide strategic advice on the financial implications of key business decisions.
  • Lead the annual budgeting process and drive continuous improvements in financial planning, including supporting department leaders in understanding the financial factors affecting their budgets.
  • Act as a trusted financial advisor on significant commercial agreements and contracts.
  • Provide strategic financial leadership on major organisational decisions, including potential partnerships, acquisitions, mergers and investment opportunities.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure financial records and reporting comply with applicable accounting standards and legal requirements.
  • Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with relevant financial, tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Review departmental structures and capabilities to continuously improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the Finance function while supporting the professional development of team members.
  • Provide leadership and oversight across the Real Estate, Legal and Purchasing functions.
